Experiment # 8
RAINFALL-RUNOFF CHARACTERISTICS OF URBAN CATCHMENT
Object: To study the rainfall-runoff characteristics of an urban catchment.
Apparatus: Basic hydrology tank and stopwatch.
Experimental Setup/ Methodology:
Permeability of the catchment can be reduced/eliminated by covering part/all of it with an impermeable plastic sheet.
The whole catchment is covered with plastic sheet resulting rapid runoff to a remarkable effect on hydrograph.
Observations:
Rainfall intensity = ______ lit/min = ______ lit/sec;
Storm duration = ____ sec; Runoff step = _____ lit/sec
S. No. | Discharge (lit/sec) | Cumulative Time (sec) | S. No. | Discharge (lit/sec) | Cumulative Time (sec) |
Graphs:
A histogram and hydrograph are plotted from the runoff data of this experiment.
