EQUIPMENTS REQUIRED: Minerals, Gloves, Streak plate ( Porcelain Plate)
THEORY:
Streak: Powdered colour of any mineral when it is rubbed against streak plate is called streak.
Streak of any mineral may or may not be same as observed colour.
Geologists use streak to identify minerals as many minerals have same colour and different streak. It is one of the physical property to identify minerals
About 90% of minerals have same colour and streak only 10% minerals have different colour and streak.
PROCEDURE
- Select the mineral and note their names.
- Identify their colour and note it down.
- Rub the mineral against the streak plate.
- Observe the streak of mineral.
- Write down the colour of streak
